Summer Camp 2017 August 14th -18th &
August 21st -25th
9:00 am–12:00 pm
Children’s House will be holding 2 weeks of summer camp this year. Children will enjoy the outdoors, as well as their favorite aspects of the Storybook Journey: art, dramatic play, story act outs, cooking, music, and songs. Come join us as we delve into a storybook journey with Summer Days and Nights. This beautifully illustrated book captures the essence of summer and will serve as our springboard as we explore summer. Summer camp at Children’s House is a perfect opportunity for families who are interested in seeing how children discover their world through the magic of the storybook journey. Following children’s natural curiosity and love of stories, we engage their sense of wonder and nurture their desire to learn.
About this book
This summer the classroom will echo the season, and our days will be spent inside and out. The book shows a young girl, as she notices details of summer, from flowers to picnics. We will visit nearby parks and explore the creek behind school, as well as visit our Children’s House Garden, to harvest vegetables and observe the fruits of summer. Our young scientists will explore the life of insects such as the bees, ants, and fireflies depicted in the book. They will play with shadows, explore the movement of the sun, and compare hot and cold.
The children will have opportunities to hear and tell stories and make them come alive through dramatic play, act outs and art. The storybook serves as a cross curriculum base in all aspects of the classroom, allowing the children to explore the theme in the ways that best indulge their fancy. Our open ended, recycled art program sparks children’s creativity while they explore materials and ideas, such as sunrise and sunset, ponds, insects, animals and dreams. We’ll have songs, dancing and group games that deepen the connections to our theme.
This Journey will highlight our creativity, our imaginations and outward expression of our inner selves. Through music, art, drama, science and storytelling we will create our individual stories and our overarching community story. Placements are limited to 25 children, and it is open to children 2 1/2 – 6 years old, as well as older siblings or alumni.
Snack will be provided by the school.
