The Journey
The children had been studying the forest with the storybook of “Goldilocks and the Three Bears” by Jan Brett. As with all of our journeys, the classroom was decorated into the theme of the book. The loft was transformed into a tree-house some weeks, and a lookout tower for the fire fighters others. Children acted out their own stories, using the costumes in the classroom to become animals of the forest. At circle time we would play charades, and children would take turns in acting out their favorite animals, and giving clues about their animal until the other children guessed what creature they were. We used our Strider bikes to go on a wildlife discovery in our neighborhood, and came across deer and a Peregrine Falcon.
The Staff jumped into Halloween by performing what we ask of the children – acting out a favorite story. Michael was Papa Bear, Elaine Mama Bear, Chelsea Baby Bear, and Britt stealing the show as Goldilocks. The children were enthralled by our performances (one for the morning, one in the afternoon).
