Summer Camp 2016 August 15th -19th &
August 22nd -26th
9:00 am–12:00 pm
Children’s House will be holding 2 weeks of summer camp this year. Children will enjoy the outdoors, as well as their favorite aspects of the Storybook Journey: art, dramatic play, story act outs, cooking, and songs. This year’s Storybook Journey for camp as well as the first story for school is “Not A Box” by Antoinette Portis. If you would like to order your own copy, please follow this link
About this book
Last year, Britt found Not A Box at the library and brought it to the classroom to support a construction building theme. The popularity amongst the children over the month impressed the teachers that simplicity can be very expansive for children. Its repetitive prose and its visual cues offer an early literacy opportunity to memorize familiar sentence structure and make sense of pictures.
Teachers also appreciate the divergent component of this book; where one object can become so many different objects. Let the journey begin…
This Journey will highlight our creativity, our imaginations and outward expression of our inner selves. Through music, art, drama, science and storytelling we will create our individual stories and our overarching community story. This approach is “outside the box”; It’s Not A Box. Placements are limited to 25 children, and it is open to children 2 1/2 – 6 years old, as well as older siblings or alumni.
Snack will be provided by the school.
Please bring the following:
Lunches that are portable for picnics, a labeled water bottle, outdoor shoes, a sun hat (please sunscreen children before arriving), spare clothes and swim gear should be brought along for water play.
