In August, we had planted some potatoes in bags that had sprouted under the cabinet over the summer. The children had been watering the bushy plant for months. Before the last snowstorm, the children went out to harvest the new potatoes. The children made guesses how many potatoes could have grown since August. The children sifted through the dirt and kept track of each new potato found. Finding a potato was just as exciting as finding a bug, so there were several bug breaks as children held and studied a bug crawling on them before passing it to a friend also waiting for a turn. Our yield was 13 new potatoes which we roasted with our garden carrots for snack.
